There’s nothing better than a bonfire on a cool crisp fall evening. There’s nothing worse than smoke from said bonfire billowing in your face. Which is why we are super excited to be unboxing our Breeo* smokeless fire pit.
So, what does smokeless mean exactly? Simply, it means less smoke. Our fire pits are engineered to drastically reduce their smoke output – saving your eyes and the environment simultaneously. The result: a campfire experience that doesn’t require moving your chair every 5 minutes.
Breeo
Our Breeo
We opted for the Breeo X24 stainless steel (I prefer the polished look over the patina look of the Corten steel) smokeless fire pit with the sear plate. Yep, that’s right, you can sear food right around the fire. We also got the optional outpost and grilling accessory.
When we lived in the city, Tom bought an electric wood pellet grill as we couldn’t have a gas grill on our rooftop patio. It’s really a smoker that you can finish or grill meat on over the flame. What it does best is smoke the meat (mmm, ribs), getting a nice sear not so much.
Tom has used the sear plate a few times to finish burgers and pork shoulder steaks on after smoking them and boy, oh, boy, were they ever good. He’s excited to keep experimenting with it.
Building a Smokeless Fire
Truth be told, I’ve never started a bonfire before. My understanding is there is a technique to building a fire in a smokeless fire pit. Tom is using the Log Cabin method of fire building. The result is an impressive fire.
Fires smoke because of 3 reasons: lack of heat, lack of oxygen, or the wrong fuel. The Breeo is made to allow for better airflow than a traditional fire pit as well as for the fire to burn hotter.
As far as the fuel goes, well, that’s on us. And we’ve got a lot of dry wood in our woodshed ready to burn. Although, we will likely burn through it this winter.
Note to Tom, must chop more wood.
Why We Chose the Breeo
We chose the Breeo smokeless fire pit over the Solo Stove, for a couple reasons. First of all, we could get it locally from a distributor and two it’s made in the USA. Tom also did his due diligence and researched the quality and construction of both. The Breeo is pretty much indestructible.
If you’re ever in our neck of the woods, come on over for a bonfire in our smokeless fire pit.
“Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling. Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.” ~1 Peter 9-10
