We celebrated our 18th wedding anniversary today by chopping wood together. Followed by a glass of wine by the bonfire.
The other night we were lying in bed, and Tom got excited about a YouTube video he was watching. He was searching for ways to be more efficient with chopping wood and came upon this video.
Less than 24 hours later, we found ourselves at Fleet Farm buying a chain and a bungee cord. Since moving to the country, we find ourselves at Fleet Farm a lot.
You might think (as former city slickers) we don’t have much experience with slinging an axe around. Oh, but we do.
We used to throw axes for fun in an axe-throwing league. And I (Vanessa) got quite good, placing in the top three a couple of the seasons.
Who knew we would use the plethora of axes we bought for throwing to one day chop wood with.
Anyways, back to chopping wood…
Shortly after moving to the country, we had an arborist walk our property with us to tell us about the health of our woods, what to do to care for it, and a little education about the various trees.
Looking past the overgrowth of Buckthorn, he said with some cleanup and care; our land could look like a national forest.
That’s all Tom needed to hear.
He has spent countless hours working in the woods every day since. We’ve got down trees all over our property that need to be hauled out into a clearing and chopped.
Right now, we are in the stage where the amount of work the woods require is never-ending. However, we are holding tight to the vision that the arborist painted.
We’re working towards those national forest vibes one chopped log at a time.
But I am like an olive tree flourishing in the house of God; I trust in God’s unfailing love forever and ever. ~ Psalm 51:8
